Reminder – Brown garden waste bins – 1 Feb 2021

Waste Collection Service changes: from 1st February, on your normal collection day, garden waste will only be collected in new brown bins and not in green fabric bags.

How do I get a brown bin?

You can order brown bins online at https://www.winchester.gov.uk/waste-recycling/garden-waste-collection-sign-up or by phone to the WCC Customer Service Centre 01962 840222.

For large bins there’s a £59 annual fee, for smaller bins £39.

Please note that this service is designed to be cost neutral and does not affect council tax.

If you have little garden waste or little room, it is possible to share a bin with a neighbour.  Alternatively, garden waste can still be taken to the HWRC at Barfield Close.

Waste Collection Service changes
Winchester City Council has introduced brown bins for garden waste, replacing the green bags.

Battery Collection

From 1st February, batteries and small electrical items will be collected.  This is a new service. Place batteries in a small bag on top of your bin, place small electrical items in a bag by the side of your bin.  Do not put these items in the bin as it will contaminate the contents.

Cartons (tetrapaks) can be recycled at Worthy Lane, and the council is investigating other sites – hopefully this may include Sainsbury’s at Badger Farm.
