Affordable Housing – Review of Shortlisted Sites
Here, for you to download, is the review of the shortlisted affordable housing exception sites in Compton and Shawford. It was prepared by Chris Buchan-Hepburn of the Hyde Group in April 2013.
Affordable Housing Review – extract from summary
Chris Buchan-Hepburn, Head of New Business, The Hyde Group reviewed the preferred sites for rural affordable housing in Compton and Shawford in April 2013. His review is based on the sites put forward for consideration since November 2012.
He has commented on each of the sites in this report.
He considers that sites 11, B and C do not have sufficient merit to investigate further; they are affected by several key issues:-
- They lack the quality of environment that would enable successful housing to be developed….
- Road access is unsafe and construction costs will be disproportionately high and is likely to be technically difficult…
- Sites 4 (Attwoods Drove) and Site 5(Martin’s Field) both have good potential…

Note: The review is as received from HARAH, apart from the original photographs, which, because of concerns over copyright, have been replaced by similar photos of the same sites.
For reference, we also attach the previously published map of originally identified potential sites, and the initial assessment (with map) of two further sites that had been brought forward.
