Annual Parish Meeting 2023

Annual Parish Meeting , Compton and Shawford

held Thursday 11th May 2023, 7.30pm at Shawford Parish Hall

5 members of the public attended in addition to Parish Councillors, the Parish Hall caretaker Frank Smith and the Clerk.

Once a year the Parish Council holds an annual meeting, it’s an opportunity for local residents to find out what the Parish has been working on but also a chance to voice any concerns.

The Chairman welcomed everyone to the meeting and provided a short overview of the evening’s proceedings, which then began with a presentation by Alison Talbot, the Operations Manager for CPRE Hampshire (The Campaign to Protect Rural England Hampshire). Alison presented a project called The Hampshire Hedge with the aim of connecting Compton on the edge of The South Downs National Park to Copythorne in the New Forest. CPRE will be connecting with local communities, schools and landowners in Hampshire to create a green corridor for wildlife. The Chairman then reported on the Council’s activities over the past twelve months. Each section incorporated a Q&A session to allow parishioners to raise any queries.

After bringing the meeting to a close the Chairman thanked Adrian Walmsley for developing the parish website, the Women’s Institute for providing refreshments, the hall caretaker Frank Smith, and all the volunteers who work on the environment and local footpaths within our Parish.

By Louisa Robertson, Clerk to the Council
