The annual Compton v Shawford cricket match, held on the Sunday of Jubilee weekend, will in future be known as the Steve Brooks Trophy

Thanks to some tidy bowling from Shawford

But some Compton batsmen survive to push the score along

After Compton end their innings on 106, the match is finely balanced as the players take tea in the marquee.

Shawford also lose quick wickets

but manage to stay ahead of the required run rate

as the crowd watches anxiously, Shawford lose momentum in the final three overs

and for the first time in the history of the fixture, the match ends in an honourable tie with the scores even.

Sunday evening, a good crowd gathers in the marquee for “Jubilee Jubilate” , a community sing song

with the chance to join in some rousing hymns led by the church choir

On the Monday morning the fete was opened by long time resident George Yorke, who has been living here since before the Queen’s Coronation.

As at the Golden Jubilee, there was a wonderful collection of vintage cars for visitors to admire

although the lambs were easily distracted

or you could admire the birds of prey

This owl is making itself look big to frighten off a dog

and this little owl changes its shape when it sees a dog

The lamb races were the hit of the day

and even the little jockeys strapped to their backs couldn’t always get them going in the right direction

There was a bouncy slide to enjoy

and specially decorated jubilee transport to admire

with much excitement

Wheelbarrow racing was very popular

and some close finishes

It wouldn’t be a proper fete without a tug of war

much tugging and heaving

you could take a pony ride

for a more peaceful experience

and at the end of the day, the organisers were presented with well-earned bouquets.

and the flames die down (Health and Safety dictate we can’t leave it burning with no-one present)
