M3 Overnight Lane Closures January 2020Notification letter from Highways England dated 24 December 2019, giving details of closures and diversion routes, reproduced at the bottom of this page:
M3 Shawford (Winchester, Hampshire) Rail Bridge Joint Replacement
Work to replace the expansion joints on the M3 at Winchester is nearing completion, unfortunately due to adverse weather conditions and unforeseen situations we will require additional overnight closures in January 2020 to complete work.
The M3 southbound carriageway between junction 9 and junction 11 will be closed overnight on the following dates:
- Friday 17 January
- Saturday 18 January
- Sunday 19 January
- Friday 24 January
- Saturday 25 January
- Sunday 26 January
A signed diversion for standard vehicles will be in place via A31 Spitfire Link, Morestead, Twyford, B3335 and the Hockley Link.
Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) will be diverted via the A34 north to the A272 Three Maids Hill, Andover Road, Harestock Road, Stockbridge Road, Chilbolton Avenue, Romsey Road and Badger Farm Road.
HGVs must ensure they follow this signed diversion and not continue through the centre of Winchester, as this route is unsuitable and leads to overnight disturbance for residents.
Please be aware that these closures are subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances – please check the yellow signs placed in advance alongside the road for confirmation of the closures dates/timings.
