The Parish Council has received reports of a couple of incidents of possible vandalism to cars in the Attwoods Drove area.

There has also been a report of a bird feeder taken from a back garden.

Screwed?

It seems that screws have recently been placed under parked cars.

They have been positioned so that, when the owner drives off, the screw is driven into the tyre, causing a puncture.

This is usually on the side of the car away from the kerb.

There have been similar incidents in previous years, after the clocks have gone back when the evenings become darker.

What to do?

Be alert for people acting suspiciously.

Report incidents to the police. You can

  • Dial the national non-emergency number 101, or
  • Report it online at https://www.hampshire.police.uk/ro/report/

Take precautions

Many of us have probably got out of the habit of doing the regular checks we heard about when we were learning to drive.

See, for example, TeensLearnToDrive.com who give 7 Steps Before You Start the Car

Their first step suggests that you get in the habit of walking around the car before you get in.

Then you should notice if there are any unusual obstacles. Someone might have pushed out their wheelie bin, or there could be a child’s toy or a cat – or even a small child – near or under the car.

If you are in a car park, your car might have picked up a scratch or someone might have knocked your wing mirror out of alignment.

And you might even notice a screw strategically placed to do damage when you drive off.
