All welcome
Everyone of whatever age is welcome to join us, whether in church or on Shawford Down, or both.
10:50am, Sunday 12th November, at All Saints Church in Compton, for the traditional Remembrance Sunday service.
We will be joined by our local 5th Winchester Scout group who will help us remember some of the local people who died.
The 10:50 start is so that the minute’s silence can begin at 11:00.
Act of Remembrance on Shawford Down
12:15 meet at the wooden Wayside Cross for an act of remembrance, whatever the weather.
We read out the names of the fallen and lay wreaths, first at the Wayside Cross and then at the nearby stone War Memorial.
How to get there
The Wayside Cross is at the edge of the Down overlooking the Otterbourne Road and the M3. It’s tucked back behind a gate and screened by bushes from most angles.
The map on the War Memorials Online site can help you locate it.
The War Memorial should be easy to spot because of its prominent position on Shawford Down.
If you’re driving, you can use the car park at the bottom of Shawford Down near the station, or the car park opposite Shepherds Lane bridge.
