Outdoor Gym Official Opening

Outdoor Gym Opening Ceremony

On the bright sunny morning of Saturday 6 December 2014, several dozen local residents, joined by our MP Steve Brine, braved the frost for the official opening of the outdoor gym equipment on the Memorial Playing Field.

Before ceremoniously removing the ribbon, Sports Club President Paul Murray reminded those present that the impetus for the gym equipment came from the parish's Great War Day in August 2014.

Using the motto "They Gave Us a Sporting Chance", the Great War Day had commemorated those who perished in the service of their country.

After the short ceremony, those present had the chance to flex their muscles on the apparatus (a cross trainer, ski machine, chest press/seated rower and assisted pull up) before enjoying coffee and pastries in the pavilion.

Thanks are due to Stuart Dunbar-Dempsey of Winchester City Council, whose Open Space Fund met the capital cost of the equipment, to VitaPlay for the installation, to the Sports Club for agreeing to take on the maintenance costs, and particularly to Parish Councillor Myra Wilkinson who selected the equipment, drove the project and provided the refreshments.

How to use the equipment?

There are instructions on the two larger pieces of apparatus. Or see www.tgogc.com/How-To-Use/ for videos on using all of the equipment installed here and more besides.
