Join Compton and Shawford Parish Council – Make a Difference in Your Community!

Do you care about what happens in Compton and Shawford? Would you like to have a say in local decisions that affect you and your neighbours?

We currently have 3 vacancies on Compton and Shawford Parish Council and are looking for enthusiastic and community-minded residents to step forward.

What Does a Parish Councillor Do?

Parish councillors play a vital role in shaping the local area. From improving community spaces to tackling local concerns, councillors contribute to key decisions that enhance the quality of life in our parish.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Attending 6 council meetings per year, plus the annual parish meeting.
  • Overseeing specific areas of local interest (portfolios) and reporting on them.
  • Engaging with residents to address community issues.

No previous experience is necessary – training and support will be provided.

Could You Be Our Next Councillor?

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be a British citizen, eligible Commonwealth citizen, a citizen of the Republic of Ireland, or a qualifying EU citizen
  • Be registered as a local elector or have lived, worked, or owned property in the parish for the past 12 months
  • Not be subject to any legal restrictions preventing you from holding office
