Cross Country Race Sunday 9 February 2025
Badger Farm Cross Country Race Sunday 9 February 2025
On Sunday 9 February 2025, the CC6 Cross Country League is coming to Compton & Shawford.
The route will be very similar to previous annual Badger Farm Races.
It’s about 5 miles long and will include paths in and around the northwestern corner of our parish.
What does this mean for locals?
Runners are asked to be courteous to members of the public using the area.
But if you would normally be walking or exercising your dog on the route that Sunday morning, please consider a different place to walk or be prepared to step aside when the runners come through. The group will become quite spread out as the race progresses.
Details
The race HQ and meeting area is on Whiteshute ridge at the orientation table (OS Grid Ref: SU465275, What3Words: w3w.co/riverside.shorts.replying ).
- The course starts with a loop on the ridge, a single long circuit behind Olivers Battery
- then upwards (away from Winchester), over the Badger Farm Road footbridge,
- down a long descent towards Compton Street (Restricted Byway C&S 35)
- then follow an ascent (Footpath C&S 13) onto Hurdle Way (Bridleway C&S 6) back towards the grassland meadows behind Olivers Battery
- via some narrow paths rejoin Whiteshute Ridge, and
- finish above Sainsbury’s near where they started.
What to expect
The organisers tell us:
- Like last time, in February 2024, they plan to start the race at 9.30am and competitors are likely to be on the Ridge until just before 11am.
- Temporary signs will be placed to alert other path users on the ridge.
- On the day marshals from Winchester & District Athletic Club, Winchester Running Club, Winchester Fitness Club, Southampton Athletic Club and Solent Running Sisters will be on hand to guide the competitors.
- Marshals will remove any trace of the race by lunchtime on the day.
- The race will cross over Badger Farm road and proceed towards Compton Street and then return via Hurdle Way and Yew Hill skirting Olivers Battery following the path between the play park and the primary school.
About CC6
The CC6 Cross Country League is a friendly low-key league, organised by the running clubs of south Hampshire for their members, providing an excellent introduction to competitive racing.

Parish Footpaths and Rights of Way
The Parish Paths map shows rights of way in the parish with the official path numbers, which are useful to know if you need to report a problem.
