Parish Council Vacancy July 2024
There is currently one vacancy on Compton and Shawford Parish Council. Information on the role and responsibilities of a parish councillor may be obtained:

The council meets on six occasions yearly and also participates in an annual parish meeting. Councillors are assigned portfolios which they are expected to report on at every meeting.
Parishioners interested in filling the vacancy are asked to send a short email application to the clerk highlighting their background, current occupation and what motivates them to become a councillor.
They will also need to confirm that they meet the following eligibility criteria:
- being at least 18 years old
- being a British citizen/ eligible Commonwealth citizen / a citizen of the Republic of Ireland / a qualifying EU citizen or an EU citizen with retained rights[1]See Electoral Commission website
- being registered as a local elector for the parish and/or have lived or worked or occupied land or premises as owner or tenant in the parish for the past 12 months
- not being subject to any legal restriction
To be considered at a meeting, applications need to be received at least 2 weeks before the meeting date.
