The Hampshire Hedge WEEKEND SPECIAL 17th Feb


This is a weekend special!! – bring along your whole family and plant some hedgerows with us. Hedge planting does not require lots of physical strength and is straightforward to learn. Ellie, our Hedgerow Officer, will make sure that everyone knows how to plant and what to do. You are welcome to come for an hour, half a day or the whole day (please just let Ellie know so she can meet you)

We will be planting up to 1km walk from the cars as parking for lots of people is tricky. Please arrive promptly so you dont get left behind!

NOTE: no toilet access but lots of hedges!

There will be some thorny species so long sleeves, hats and thick trousers are advisable! I have some planting spades, gloves and glasses, but if you have your own and they are easy to bring then please do bring them along.

Please bring:

  • Packed lunches and water
  • Long sleeve and sturdy trousers
  • Gardening gloves (if you have any!)
  • Spade (if you have one!)
  • Water proofs
  • Boots (the ground is wet and muddy)

Everyone is welcome (under 16yrs must be accompanied by an adult).

The event will go ahead drizzle or shine, but we will let you know if we are cancelling due to more extreme weather.

Please let me know if you have any health conditions or concerns that we would need to know for this volunteering activity. I’ll use this information to update my plans and briefing for the day, for example who to speak to if you feel unwell.

We will be running hedge planting sessions every Thursday from next week until end of March, and in January, February and March we will be running one weekend day a month. Many of our hedge planting days will be in Compton, and some will also be at the other end of our project, in Copythorne. Please book on to our events so we have a rough idea how many plants to bring!
