Parish Hall

About the Hall

Built by public subscription in 1896 for £750, the Shawford Parish Hall celebrated its centenary with two weeks of special events at the end of 1996. Since then it has been refurbished and extended and is now a handsome and popular complex with a charm all its own. It is managed by CASCA under lease from the Parish Council.

Many Groups and Organisations both from within the Community and from further afield use the Hall. Individual bookings for parties and celebrations are welcomed. Facilities for the disabled are excellent.
The Hall’s attached Sub Post Office closed in early 2008: the nearest Post Offices are at Twyford Stores and at Williams Garage on the Otterbourne Road shortly after you leave Compton heading south. See village map for an overview of the area.

Rooms for hire

The three function rooms, backed by a stylish kitchen and spacious foyer, can be hired either singly or in combination.

The large and small halls – the Shawford and the Compton Rooms – and the Heathcote Room upstairs can be hired through the caretaker, Mr Frank Smith, on 712944. More information is on the CASCA leaflet.

Wi-Fi

[update April 2018]

The Hall is now connected to the internet. The signal works in all 3 rooms.

The process for accessing the link is on the installed Hub in the Foyer.

Access

For those coming by rail, the Hall is very close to Shawford Station, with an hourly service in each direction throughout the day.

Bus passengers can use the excellent Bluestar No 1 Southampton to Winchester service, 15 minutes during the working day, which stops at the top of the Shawford Hill a few minutes’ steep walk away.

Access by road is also good. For long-distance travellers, the hall is well-placed for Junction 11 of the M3.

Parking

The Hall has its own car park, with capacity for about 15 cars.

During working hours, all available spaces on nearby local roads are likely to be already filled by rail commuters’ cars.

Titanic Connection

In the early 1990s we discovered that the old Parish Hall crockery had come from the White Star Line and was saleable to collectors of Titanic memorabilia.
