message from Winchester City Council re Garden Waste dated 2 August 2021
We are contacting you to let you know that our garden waste collection service has been suspended from Friday 30 July until Monday 9 August.
We are sorry about this interruption to your service, our waste operator, BIFFA, is experiencing staff shortages due to:
- A significant number of waste collection staff self-isolating in line with the present guidance to prevent the spread of COVID-19
- A current national shortage of HGV drivers
You will not lose out financially as the council is looking to extend collection for a period in February to reflect the collections lost due to the impacts of COVID-19 and the HGV driver shortage.
If you need to dispose of garden waste prior to the service recommencing, the HWRCs remain open for bookings. Alternatively garden waste can be retained until the service recommences.
All our other waste collection services remain unaffected and will continue to be collected as per the timetable.
We thank you for your patience, apologise for this unavoidable suspension and look forward to resuming our full service in due course.
Contractors will be replacing the lights in the M3 subways with new more efficient LED lighting. They’ll be doing the work in August and September 2021.
