Footpath 29 Temporary Closure

Winchester Footpath 29 Temporary ClosureWinchester Footpath 29 Temporary Closure

Note 9 Jan 2020: Temporary Closure extended for another 12 months.

Do you walk or cycle along the Viaduct Way between Hockley Viaduct and Winchester?

A narrow footpath follows close to the bank of the Itchen Navigation as you head south from the point where the Viaduct Way crosses Garnier Road/Bull Drove.

This is Winchester Footpath 29. It was originally due to be closed for repairs from 6 September 2019 to 16 January 2020 (unless the work was completed sooner).

The authorised period of closure is now from 16.02.2020 for a period of 12 months or until completion of the works, whichever is sooner.

You will still be able to use the parallel tarmac path, a shared surface used by walkers and cyclists. This is the Viaduct Way, officially Winchester Bridleway 27.
