Shawford Festival Choir 2017
An invitation to join us for the new season
Our choir rehearses on Monday evenings starting at 7.30 pm in the Shawford Parish Hall (near the railway station). This autumn we will be working towards performing the wonderful Mozart Requiem, Vivaldi Gloria and Handel’s Zadok the Priest; on Saturday 16th December in Thornden Hall, Chandlers Ford.
Our choir, comprising up to 80 singers, was formed in 1921 to support the Winchester Festival that included a competition involving a large number of choirs from the Hampshire area – and we are still going strong 96 years later! Every year in the spring we also join with other choirs to sing in either Winchester Cathedral or Romsey Abbey. To be part of a choir of around 200 with a full orchestra in these famous venues is quite an experience.
Our conductor, John Sutton, provides an expert and entertaining rehearsal experience. Most of us come out from rehearsals with our spirits lifted and a sense of achievement – after all singing is good for your mental and physical health!
We are always looking for new members, there are no auditions and not even a requirement to read music although it helps if you can. Our first rehearsal of the Autumn term is on Monday 11th September – if you can’t make the 11th, just drop into any of our Monday rehearsals with no obligation.
