Report of November Meeting
It seems my reference in last month’s report to the Supermoon in October was a little premature as there was a bigger and better Supermoon this month; at least we could see it in October!
The talk at this month’s meeting was by Peter Barwick on ‘Soft Fruits – all aspects of growing’. He has been a professional fruit grower for many years working on the Blackmoor estate at Liss, Hampshire and his expertise gained during those years was obvious in his talk. As with most gardening, ground preparation is essential, in particular eradicating perennial weeds.
Best products for this are Glyphosate and SBK which can be mixed if necessary. There is likely to be a ban on the former in the near future, so take note and stock up! Peter went through many soft fruits explaining how to plant and included the sometimes complex pruning required for maximum yield. For those who missed the talk, there is a lot of information on the Blackmoor website: www.blackmoor.co.uk. Another fascinating, interesting and informative evening.
The winner of the monthly competition for ‘an indoor plant’ was Judy Harris.
Finally, if you haven’t picked up a schedule for the Spring show on 21 March 2017, you can ask Jan Brook for a copy.
