Shawford and Compton Horticultural Society Annual Show 2013
Saturday 31 August
What a wonderful day we had for the 19th Annual Show. Outside the weather was perfect and inside the Shawford Parish Hall the Exhibit Tables were full to overflowing with about 280 exhibits – from potatoes to aubergines, massed flowers of every hue, the pick of the year’s fruit, flower arrangements sophisticated and humorous, cakes and scones to die for together with handicrafts, some knitted, some painted and some photographed. The enthusiasm and commitment of members was obvious – well done to all of them.
In the afternoon visitors were able to wander amongst the exhibits and consider the verdicts of some very experienced judges or enjoy tea and home-made cakes amongst the handicrafts. This was a lovely community occasion enjoyed by all whether victorious or not. As one visitor commented: “it’s like going back to a bygone era” – which we take as a great compliment.
At the end of the afternoon the Society’s Chairman, Margaret Lowman, thanked everyone who had contributed, exhibited, organised or simply visited for making the occasion so delightful.
