Volunteers wanted to help clear station footpath

Volunteers wanted on 4 September to help clear footpath from the top of Shawford Down to Shawford Station

We need a group of about six volunteers with strong boots, gloves and suitable clothing. Tools and supervision will be provided.
It is all too easy to take for granted the beautiful area in which we live, or to think that the countryside looks after itself. However, nature (and people) require a helping hand.

The footpath from Shawford Station to the top of Shawford Down leading to Southdown Road is a case in point. During last winter, the area between the two gates at the top became impassable owing to thick mud.

Following consultation with HCC Countryside Rangers, we are set to repair the damaged section.

However, we do need volunteer support from the community. Following a postponement of work owing to “HOT Weather!”, we have rescheduled for Wednesday 4th September 2013 at 10am at the top gates leading to Southdown Road.

We need a group of about six volunteers with strong boots, gloves and suitable clothing. Tools and supervision will be provided.

Please help to ensure this path is improved for ease of access. Let John know if you can come on 712501.

The Parish Council has given support for the formation of an Environment Conservation Group for Compton & Shawford. We hope to establish this in the Autumn.
