The lambs, which should be racing, are temporarily distracted
I would like to start this email with a huge ‘thank you’ to everyone involved in the Jubilee events we celebrated over this long weekend.
Many of you receiving this email will have been involved via organising committees, sports sections, village associations, local schools, as volunteers to run events, bar staff, as well those who turned up enjoy the events.
You have all contributed to a fantastic weekend and worked exceptionally hard in the process.
We are all privileged to live in an area where there is is so much community spirit and a desire to have fun and raise funds for a number of good causes.
As I currently look out of the window at the rain I think we were even lucky with fine weather for most of the events.
I have had great comments from people about how well the whole weekend went – with a great finale on Shawford Down. Many congratulations on all your ( & your husband’s) efforts. I hope the rest of the PC were suitably impressed with the ‘village event’ !!
To the PC chairman from the Ball Committee chair
Well done! You have organised such a brilliant weekend and you deserve all the praise you get. It has been a wonderful weekend of fun, games and socialising. I have met lots of people who either live in Compton, Shawford and Otterbourne for the first time. It is wonderful to think just how many people in the village have been involved in Jubilee festivities over the weekend – what a long list it would make. A truly wonderful village spirit has been demonstrated – long may it continue!
Please pass on my thanks to all on your committee.

My husband wants me to congratulate you on such a wonderfully successful event. So do I. It was a privilege to be part of your team.
Before those lovely mugs are whisked away, could I have an e-mail address so that I can order three more for a neighbour who was not physically able to participate in any of our events.

Just a note to say how much we all enjoyed our visit to the Diamond Jubilee celebrations on Monday. Everything went with a swing and there was so much variety that everybody must have found several things to take their interest. We (the grandsons and I) particularly enjoyed the ducks, golf, bean bags and, of course, the wheelbarrow races! It was good to see (and hear) Janet and John for the first time in YEARS, …
Well done to you and the team – a wonderful achievement!
From the cricket official scorer
We’d be grateful if you could pass on the sincere thanks of all the cricketers to the ladies of the Guilds for kindly providing the tea and delicious cakes between innings at the match today.
Very best regards
All the men in white

What an amazing achievement ladies, well done. The atmosphere at all the events was delightful and it was tremendous to see so many local people participating in such a wide variety of activities. You must have catered for all tastes and pockets which implies you achieved the miracle of ‘pleasing all of the people, all of the time’. PS I suspect lamb racing will need to be in an arena with grandstands in future.

On behalf of all our family we would like to thank you and the Jubilee Committee for the excellent weekend you all arranged for the Jubilee Weekend. As far as I can make out it was by far the best Village events that I have heard of. From the Ball (attended by both our Sons) to the Cricket Match and the Service on Sunday (attended by all the family at some time) through to the Fete (again attended by all the family plus my Sister and her family (some from Sheffield) ) we had a really lovely day which culminated in us all coming to the lighting of the Beacon from our 15month Grandson up to us Oldies. I was exhausted but you must all have been completely exhausted but it was all worthwhile. Well done I have never seen the village so united. So once again our sincere thanks for all your hardwork.
