Commonwealth Silver for Julia Beckett

Julia Beckett was thrilled as around 150 villagers packed Shawford Parish Hall on the evening of Friday March 31st for a reception, hosted by Compton & Shawford Parish Council, to congratulate her for her silver medal at the Melbourne Commonwealth games.

Photo displays around the hall reminded us that in addition to her swimming prowess, Julia, who has her sights on a career in the media, starred as Snow White in the village pantomime a few years ago.

In her speech, Julia remarked that after years of her being introduced as George Beckett’s daughter, her dad was now having to get used to the idea of being introduced as Julia Beckett’s father.
